Fibre Art: A Medium That Connects Us to Something Deeper

Fibre Art: A Medium That Connects Us to Something Deeper

Have you ever felt art change the way you feel in a space? For me, fibre art has always held that power. It’s not just something to look at; it’s something to connect with. And while the world is now beginning to recognise its place as a fine art form, I’ve always known it was so much more than a craft. Fibre art has a way of weaving into our lives, shaping how we feel, and grounding us in ways that are hard to put into words.

So why is fibre art finally getting the recognition it deserves?

In recent years, I’ve watched with joy as fibre art has stepped into the spotlight. From major exhibitions to features in renowned publications like The New York Times and Vogue, the art world is waking up to the idea that fibre art isn’t just decorative—it’s powerful, versatile, and deeply meaningful. Artists like Sheila Hicks and Olga de Amaral have paved the way, proving that fibre art belongs in the same conversations as other contemporary art forms.

But here’s the thing: for me, it’s always been this way. Long before the shift, I felt its magic. It was never “just a craft.” Fibre art is tactile, emotional, and alive—it has the ability to transform spaces and, in turn, the people who inhabit them.

What drives the maker to create?

When I sit down to create, it’s never just about the piece itself. It’s about the experience—both mine and yours. Every knot I make is tied with intention. Every texture I weave is a reflection of what I feel and what I hope to bring into the world.

There’s something so profound about taking raw, natural materials and turning them into something that can evoke emotions, inspire calm, or even start conversations. I often feel like I’m channeling something greater when I create—a kind of energy that passes through me, into the piece, and then out into the world.

And here’s the most beautiful part: when you, as the viewer or collector, bring that piece into your space, the connection continues. It becomes yours. That’s why I’m so passionate about creating custom pieces. It’s a privilege to be trusted with someone’s vision and to create something that feels like a reflection of who they are.

Can fibre art really transform lives, not just spaces?

Fibre art fills my heart in ways I can hardly describe. To me, there’s nothing more fulfilling than watching a piece come to life—starting with an idea, moving through the tactile process of creation, and finally seeing it find its place in someone’s home or project. It’s a joy that only fuels my desire to create more, to share more, and to show the world just how impactful this medium can be.

This joy isn’t just about the finished product. It’s about the process itself—the rhythm of knotting, the textures under my fingers, and the satisfaction of knowing I’m contributing something meaningful to the world. Fibre art has a way of transforming not just spaces but also the people who interact with it. It softens harsh lines, adds warmth to cold rooms, and brings a sense of calm and balance to chaotic environments. But it’s more than that. It’s deeply human. It holds the energy of the maker, the materials, and the hands that worked tirelessly to create it.

And this is what I want to share with the world: fibre art isn’t just something you hang on a wall. It’s something that becomes part of your story, your home, and your life.

The recognition fibre art is receiving now feels like a long-overdue celebration, but to me, it’s always been more than enough. I knew it had this power—this magic—and I feel so grateful to be part of its story.

If you’ve never experienced the impact of fibre art, I invite you to explore it. Whether through one of my pieces or the work of other incredible artists, I believe you’ll find something that resonates deeply. Let’s create something meaningful together.
